Mazatlan
Old Mazatlán – The Historic Zone The heart of Old Mazatlán is the large 19th-century Moorish-style cathedral that faces the Plaza Principal. This cathedral is located at the centre of a 20-block historic area that has recently been restored. Other renowned attractions in Old Mazatlán include the Plazuela Machado, a lovely tree-lined park; the Museo Arqueológico, with its collection of archeological and anthropological artifacts; and the Museo de Arte, an art museum. In “Old Mexico”, you can also watch low-altitude divers jump off platforms and into the ocean. Both walking and motorized tours offer you the occasion to see the highlights of this deep-rooted district, and experience the charm of its locals. Zona Dorada – The Golden Zone North of Punta Sabalo, this area features the bulk of the tourist hotels, restaurants and nightclubs. Fiesta Land is considered Mazatlán’s party headquarters, and it is home to many of the local hot spots. The majority of the hotels, restaurants and clubs are within walking distance, but open-air cabs called Pulmoniá cater to those needing to get around. Sierra Madre Foothills Several small, picturesque colonial towns make up the Sierra Madre Foothills, an excellent day-trip destination for those wanting to travel outside of but near to Mazatlán. Concordia, founded in 1565, has an 18th-century church with a baroque façade, and hot mineral springs are located nearby. Copala, also founded in 1565, was one of Mexico's first mining towns. Several other modest, enchanting towns are situated throughout this colonial area. Bus tours travel both to and from the Sierra Madre Foothills.
